What David will do as your Commissioner
Transparency
First of all, I will be transparent, which the present board has not been. At the February 28 meeting at 3 pm, constituents asked on more than one occasion, why the meeting couldn’t be videotaped? We certainly have the technology, I do about 10 zoom meetings a week with hundreds of folks. Commissioner Bulakowski stated that the commissioners feel that audio is the best way for the public to hear the meetings. OK, so ask 10 people if they would prefer to listen to the Super Bowl or to watch the Super Bowl. At least 9 out of 10 would respond they prefer to watch the game. This commissioners policy is ridiculous, it is out of touch, and it does not serve our constituents well.
Secondly, why is the meeting scheduled for 3 pm? Is it to have as few as possible people be able to attend? Why not 5:30 pm or 6 pm, to welcome working folks to attend the meeting and become more transparent? To have the commissioners meeting at 3 pm seems very short sighted and is not serving the public well.
Affordability
As my electricity bills continue to climb, up 20% over the last year, actions need to be taken. We are lucky to live in the Atlantic City Electric region as ACE has capacity. This means ACE can hook up new energy sources into their grid. And it means this is a great time to enroll in community solar. We did last spring, and we were notified in March of 2026 that we would start receiving community solar in June of 2026. And we were told by EverSolar, the developer, that we would be receiving a 45% discount on our electric bill. Sign up for Community Solar and benefit from clean energy. The president of NJBPU said in March of 2026, “ Solar energy and battery storage are the fastest and most cost effective way to bring on new energy generation.”
I will look for opportunities to develop more community solar programs in CMC. All large roofs have the opportunity to become income generators if they partner with a solar developer like Solar Landscape. Eversolar is another solar developer who leases the roof from the landlord and signs folks up to benefit from clean energy. Usually subscribers receive a discount between 20-30 %.
Bringing affordable housing to CMC is one of our goals. I learned from Tim Alexander of a housing program in Vineland which should become a model for CMC. It is a five year program that involves teaching the tenants how to care for their property. The managing company takes 10% of the rent and puts it into an interest bearing account. After 5 years, if the tenant has been a good tenant, they are gifted the 10% towards a mortgage. This is a great way for first time buyers and our work force to get into the housing market.
When elected we will establish a task force to discover the savings achieved when we put solar panels on all school roofs and municipal buildings in the 16 municipalities. Solar is the least expensive energy, much less than gas powered plants, and solar farms can be built much faster, a solar farm can be built in 1 year compared to 6 years for a gas powered plant. Nuclear takes at least 10 years to build. When you think of all the billions of dollars spent subsidizing dirty oil and gas, solar farms are a no brainer and much, much cleaner.
I will also be asking a task force to look at electrifying the CMC fleet of cars, trucks, and buses. I own an EV and charge it at night when the rates are lowest. I typically pay $6.50 to charge my car to the recommended 80%. Compare that with the $40-$50 you pay at the pump. I estimate I’ll save $3,000 this year. And there is more good news. EVs have fewer parts meaning much less maintenance. Imagine the savings to the folks of CMC if the CMC fleet was electrified.
Homeless Shelter - did you know Cape May County is the only county in New Jersey which does not have a homeless shelter. We are not proud of this. Cape May County needs to build a homeless shelter and take care of our most vulnerable and least fortunate people. Eric and I will work toward this goal. We have identified a good location for this and the property is owned by the county. Stay tuned.
ICE OUT! Ice’s actions are unconstitutional, their assaults on the public are illegal. We must reign in this unlawful effort. ICE has murdered two innocent people, Pretti and Good. The murderers need to be tried for premeditated homicide. That is what they did, that is what I saw. Our eyes don’t lie. We need to work to get ICE to obey the laws of our country. Republicans support ICE. Republicans who do support ICE need to be replaced by reasonable people.
The war, rising fuel prices, the slowing economy, rising grocery prices, these all are because republicans have control. These are republican policies. Republicans are backing a war which is unconstitutional. Prices were rising before the war and now they are rising faster. The president has no plan, republicans have no plan. This is insanity. The average American is suffering because of the republicans and their positions.
And lastly, I will look into restoring rail service to Philadelphia. Cape May County residents deserve modern transit to this major hub. Modern rail service will promote tourism in Cape May County.
